Here’s the answer: as a company based in such a fine location, employing many fine Plymouthians (or Plymoids as they’re often called), we like to support local websites. We strongly recommend you do similar wherever you may be on this fine planet.
One such site is http://www.inplymouth.com/ which is packed full of useful information for those living in and those visiting Plymouth. You’ll find blogs about living and working in the city, lifestyle and business themed e-zines and general guides for tourism, properties, hotels, pubs, restaurants, shopping and so much more we can’t possibly list it all here. There is also a gallery where you can see what’s so fine about the city as well as some very old, historical pics of people who are now probably dead, standing around old vehicles whilst wearing peculiar clothing.
You might also want a look at http://www.barbicanwaterfront.com/ which concentrates on the most beautiful and historic part of Plymouth: the Barbican. As well as the expected guides to what’s on and where to eat, drink, stay and shop, you’ll also find an absorbing section on the Barbican’s unique history complete with slideshows.
Finally, have a glance at http://www.plymouthhoewaterfront.com/ which is worth looking at for the stunning photos alone. As Plymouth Hoe is probably the most beautiful natural harbour in the known universe, you will never tire of looking at what’s on offer here. Again there are useful sections for those wanting accommodation and all you need to know about events, eating, drinking and shopping. There is also the history section for those wanting to know all about that famous bit of bowling we touched on earlier.
It is at this point that we take our hat – and other items of clothing – off to Scott Grenney. Scott works for the Royal Mail but noticed that there were no websites dedicated solely to the Hoe or Barbican. He runs his two sites as a non-profit organisation with just himself and a small team of volunteers, including photographer Mike Pitches. He’s noticed that since the sites have been linked to social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook, that people all over the land are messaging him to thank him for his coverage of such events as the Armed Forces Day on the Hoe.
Anyway, you’ve obviously just had a look at all three of these sites and are now packing your bags to head to our beautiful city… (We can’t put you up though, as we’re in the middle of decorating the spare room.) Despite your understandable envy for the location of Fresh Air Studios what we also recommend is you take a look at your own town’s websites and support them, promote them and do all you can to help them. You’ll not only be enhancing your town’s profile, you could also be helping local businesses in the long term – including your own.
Along the way you will also learn a lot about your town, what’s going on and – most importantly – discover some great places to eat.
