There are many ways one can sound bigger. For a start, you can try shouting. If that doesn’t work, buy yourself a megaphone. But what if you’re a business? You’re small but – the way things are with technology these days – you’re able to trade globally. How can you stop sounding small and start sounding BIG? Well, it’s quite easy really…

Get an IVR for your telephone system. Usually with small or medium businesses (sometimes annoyingly referred to as “SMEs” but we won’t do that here), you have whoever is the least busy in the office grabbing the ‘phone when it rings. They’ll then look around for the person required. If they’re not available, a message might be taken. Then if the caller is lucky, the message might actually get passed on. This all gives an air of “small and unreliable” to any potential caller. Right, let’s get that image changed.

Monopoly

The days of IVRs being confusing things that pass callers from pillar to post are over. The modern IVR – as championed by Fresh Air Studios – is an invaluable tool for any business. Any caller will be met with the option to choose which department they talk to. If that department is busy, the caller can leave a message and the business will be able to call them right back. If at any point the caller is put on hold, they’ll hear a series of messages about the business and their services.

Then at night, when there is no one in the building, the IVR will switch to an answerphone mode. So you need never miss any important callers. Let’s face it, that’s much better than the old message you recorded on a tape back in 1993.
